DAY 1 ANKARA
Arrive in
Ankara. Orientation tour of the city. Overnight at your hotel (
ANKARA ). [ D ]
DAY 2 ANKARA
This
morning, we visit the Ancient Citadel of the city, surrounded by
old city walls. There is a nice panoramic view of the city from the top.
Walk along the narrow streets inside the citadel and enjoy old
traditional houses from the turn of this century. A few minutes of
walking down the citadel will bring us to the Museum of Anatolian
Civilizations which was built as caravanserai back in Ottoman times
and now houses a nice collection of archaeological findings from all
around Turkey. After lunch on the citadel, proceed to the Mausoleum
of Ataturk, the resting place for the founder of modern Republic of
Turkey and considered by many as the father of all Turks. Dinner and
overnight at your hotel ( ANKARA ). [ B L D ]
DAY 3 CAPPADOCIA
Drive
through the central Anatolian plateau. Visit the picturesque village of
Guzelyurt. Take a walk through the village streets with rock
houses along built on the cliffs. We will also visit a very old church
dedicated to St. Gorge, the principal saint of this area in the early
Christian times. A short distance of drive from the village is the
Ihlara Gorge with painted and frescoed churches built into the
cliffs. Dinner and overnight at your hotel ( CAPPADOCIA ). [ B L

DAY 4
CAPPADOCIA
Full day
sightseeing of Cappadocia. We will take a walk around the town of
Uchisar with a rock fortress built out of volcanic rock and proceed
to the Goreme Open Air Museum where we will see old Byzantine
churches with frescoes and murals on their walls. Basically, the
paintings on church walls are about the scenes from Bible and figures of
Saints. Visit local crafts people in the town Avanos. Stop at one
of the underground cities at Ozkonak, dug in the ground by early
Christians to escape from enemies. Dinner at a local restaurant built in
cave that offers some Turkish Folk Dance performance. Overnight
at Hotel ( CAPPADOCIA ). ( B L D )
DAY 5 TRANSFER
Check-out
